Hi Wendy
I made this recipe today after watching Kishwar (a contestant on the 2021 season of MasterChef in Australia) make it on the show. I am sure I followed the recipe of 2 cups yellow split peas + 2 cups basmati rice + 4 cups water (as well as the spices etc). I found that after 4 hours on low the liquid had gone. The kitchari in the middle of the pot looked like your picture at the top, but their were still entire yellow split peas through the kitchari toward the top of the pot. Do you think next time I do this that I should add more liquid after four hours and keep going? The taste was great so I am keen to make it again. I have cooked with yellow split peas before but this is the first time I have used basmati rice. Whatever experience you could share would be most welcome.
Take care
