Buggy Birthday Party Ideas

I’ve been asked a few times about the “buggy” foods that I served at my son’s 1st birthday party a couple months ago. So I thought I would share the ideas here. I had so much fun planning this party and creating all the food.

Buggy Birthday Party Ideas

Ants on A Log
-a classic

Celery filled with peanut butter and topped with raisins.

Muenster Bugs
-pictured above with ants on a log

cubes of muenster cheese
crunchy chow mien noodles

Stick 6 noodles (3 on each side) into cheese cube and then 2 out the top for the antennae. Take time to pick out noodles that are similar in size so that they will sit nicely.

Buggy Birthday Party Ideas

Black “Oreo” Spiders
-these aren’t actually Oreo’s but the name fits better…they are dairy free, gluten free cookies

Oreo-type cookies
red hots
red string licorice (if you can’t find string licorice, then get some that pulls apart)
white or red frosting

Gently push 4 pieces of licorice into each side of the cookie (for the legs). Put frosting in a piping bag or zip top baggie with a corner cut off. Squeeze on two dabs of frosting and place a red hot on each (for the eyes).

Buggy Birthday Party Ideas

Marshmallow Ants
-perfect party activity

large marshmallow
pretzel sticks
red hots

Take 3 marshmallows and use pretzels to join the marshmallows by pressing them into each one. Add 6 pretzels (3 on each side) for the legs. Add 2 pretzels on top and 2 red hots on the front for the antennae and eyes.

Those bugs are soo cute! Welcome to MPM, though my hips won't thank you for linking to that ice cream recipe!

I just made an almost identical recipe with lemon juice, and lemon zest instead of the crackers. It was so good I barely managed to stop eating the batter long enough to freeze it. I think lemon ice cream really needs to be served with a scoop of lime though, don't you? My excuse and I'm sticking to it!
