You may be a child of the 80’s if you remember the Bartles & Jaymes commercials with the older gentlemen sitting on the porch sipping wine coolers.

Wine coolers were everywhere back then but just like big hair and the neon trend, they fell out of favor just as quickly. This was mainly due to the way they upped the tax of wine and opened the door for malt beverages. Luckily for us, we can enjoy nostalgic drinks that are even more refreshing than you remember. If you were too young to get a taste back then, you can now enjoy the spritzer/cocktail/wine/sangria hybrid that is the wine cooler. Trust me, it’s totally radical!

Instead of the cheap stuff that was massed produced in the 80’s we are using better ingredients this time around. Choose a wine that suits your taste- not too expensive since it will be your base, but nice enough to enjoy a glass on its own. This recipe might even have you trying wines that you may not have tried before. If you open a bottle of wine and find it’s too dry or too sweet to fit your taste, make this recipe and the adjust the soda and cherry juice according to your preferences.

The cherry juice brings a beautiful color and flavor to this cooler. The mix of sweet bubbly ginger ale and dry white wine are perfect to pair with the sweet yet tart dynamic of cherry juice. As an added benefit, the digestive qualities of ginger ale and cherry juice make this cherry wine cooler an excellent drink to enjoy after a summer BBQ or grill out.
