Pound Cake with Orange Liqueur Creme

I love making things from scratch, but every once in awhile I take a couple short cuts. I pretty much live by the 80-20 rule…80% healthy from scratch meals and 20% fun or quick recipes. This pound cake with orange liqueur creme would fall into the later category. In fact, it’s only 4 ingredients! Yep….this show stopping {and perfect for your sweetie on Valentine’s Day} has only 4 ingredients and it can be made a day in advance. I’d stick with the same morning, but you could make it up to one day in advance if you really needed to.

Pound Cake with Orange Liqueur Creme

I surprised Hubbyman with these tasty little treats for a late night snack a couple weeks ago and he was super impressed and excited for the “adult” dessert. This is definitely a not-for-kids treat since it has orange-flavored liqueur. But it is perfect for a romantic dessert, special birthday surprise..or just because you want something a little different.

I love pound cake (well, I haven’t had it in years due to my life threatening dairy allergy…but I used to love it), so this really was a special treat for Hubbyman. I don’t buy or make stuff like this anymore, so making something just for him really made him feel special. Since it was just for him, I used store bought items since I have to really steer clear of touching a lot of dairy items. {Sad, I know!}

Pound Cake with Orange Liqueur Creme

I used pre-made pound cake found in the produce section of my grocery store (strange place, I know…but it’s by the strawberries). I also used frozen whipped topping. Now don’t go crazy on me..I know which brand you are thinking of and there are actually better options out there. I usually pick up a tub or two every time I go to Sprouts or Whole Foods. And the orange liqueur..use what ever one you have on hand such as Grand Marnier or Curacao.

Taking a couple pre-made items and combining them in a creative way can really make a tasty treat! Do you ever take a short cut in the kitchen? What’s your favorite convenience item? I’d love to hear about your kitchen time-savers!

    For those who don’t consume alcohol..do you know if there would be an alternative to the orange liqueur? Because this looks so delicious!
