Fresh Cherry Smoothies

I love cherries…any type really. Fresh, frozen, jarred, bing, rainier..it doesn’t matter..I will eat all of them.  I created this recipe with fresh cherries over the summer, but then I froze a bunch of cherries and just made it again with frozen ones.  It’s still just as tasty!  My kids beg for smoothies, so I make sure to keep my smoothies pretty healthy.  These fresh cherry smoothies are kid tested and mommy approved!

Fresh Cherry Smoothies

Cherries have a very short growing season and ripen from June to mid-August in North America, but in Australia and New Zealand they are associated with Christmas since they ripen in late December.  So, if you can’t get your hands on any fresh cherries, then check out places like Costco as they usually sell frozen, unsweetened cherries in large bags.

Fresh Cherry Smoothies

I love how versatile this smoothie is.  Feel free to use Greek yogurt or a non-dairy version….use honey or agave to sweeten.  But please keep the almond extract.  The almond flavor goes so nice with the cherry flavor. It’s my secret ingredient in my cherry pies that makes everyone beg for the recipe!

  1. Smoothies are definitely a mainstay in this household and with three young boys what better way to get veg like kale, carrots and peppers (amongst others) into them.

I usually also add sesame and/or sunflower seeds and plenty of low sugar fruit.

The kids love them and so do I!

  2. I am pretty much a cherry-aholic myself Wendy. Love the almond extract in here – cherry and almond are meant to be together!

  3. This sounds delicious, Wendy! I have used to many different berries in smoothies, and I’m not sure why I’ve never made a cherry smoothie. I want to head out to the store right now to pick some up!
