Setting a New Heathy Goal

Follow Me on Pinterest

Next month marks my 37th birthday!  I can’t believe I’m even saying that out loud.  But I’m not at a healthy weight which is causing all sorts of health issues for me, so something has to change!

I’ve struggled with my weight since I was a freshman in college, but it has totally gotten out of control the last ten years or so.  I have asthma, so when I’m on steriods I gain weight…but I have another medical condition that makes my body act like I have diabetes (though I don’t) and makes it hard to loose weight.  Really?  It’s the worst.  I have to take these meds that make me gain weight, but then I can’t take it off.  And who can deny that I like food.  It’s a lose-lose situation.

I’m pushing 40!  My kids love to be active!  My hubby is making some great dietary changes!  It’s my turn…I can do this!

So what am I gonna do?

Trading in my love of candy for some Lean Cuisine!

I’m replacing one meal with an easy freezer meal from Lean Cuisine.  They really do taste pretty good and I need something that I can do quick and easy at lunch time.   I ended up a Sam’s Club to buy their Lean Cuisine Asian 6 packs.  I had to…I’m cheap and they have some of the best prices.

I’ve also downloaded the Couch 2 5K beginner running program to my iPhone.   Honestly, I downloaded it about 9 months ago, but haven’t used it.  I had every intention to, but then it got really hot (like over 100F at 8am)…I’m so not going to take up running in those temps.  So now that it’s cooling off I have no excuse!  Zero! Zilch! Nada!

I’m all set to go….stay tuned for a couple weeks and I will update y’all on my progress.  I promise!

  1. I am so excited to be partnering with you on this!! We can do this!!

  2. Exercise is so great on many fronts. Good luck with the Couch to 5K program. I’m looking at that one come late spring. Until then, it’s Beachbody products for me to do in my home.

    • LOL Laura! It’s just now a good temp for me to get out of the house. Too hot here in the summer…too cold there in the winter. :) I will have to check out Beachbody products for next summer.

  3. I want to try the Couch 2 5k program – someday. Not with a newborn!

  4. Way to go Wendy! The Couch to 5k plan is a really wonderful one – I reccomend it to all my friends who decide to start running! I know you’ll do great at it! Do you have a 5k race picked out to run?

  5. Honestly my health has been so bad the past 10 plus years that I kind of shut out all exercise. I used to run and now I can barely walk. And I have a crappy attitude and poor me mantra about that. I am so happy to have read your post Wendy. It made me realize that although most people are WAY more mobile than I, we all have issues and hills to climb. I have in the past gotten to build up sometimes on the treadmill, and I scoff because I think I am not going to be getting anywhere on it…and my goals are to lose weight and gain strength. I am have become that “why try when you can’t do it all” person. I know I have to just get on the darn thing and WALK,…even if it is for 5 minutes. And go from there. I do eat pretty well but my metabolism is so messed up from no activity, I have a long road ahead too.

Good luck girl! I am 51 and wish I had done more sooner….don’t wait! Take off and take it off NOW! Buddying up with a friend is such a good idea…you can hold each other accountable AND celebrate your victories together!

  6. Good for you! Way to set some goals!

  7. Happy early birthday and congratulations on making the step towards a healthier life! I’ve heard about the couch to 5k and I’ve been wanting to try it. I would absolutely love to hear about your progress!!

  8. woo-hoo! Girl I know what you mean about pushing 40! I read somewhere that women really started getting into exercise and running in their 30s so we’re starting at the perfect time. Best of luck!
